SPACE 2015 pt. 1 (pt. 2 coming soon!)
Okay, so there was no karaoke and the show was a little slow for people selling stuff but we met a ton of people that we’re really glad we had the opportunity to talk to.
FIRST UP: czapbooks had the best looking table and their books are really impressive. I’m REALLY excited about about the upcoming Futchi Perf, which you can pre-order at http://www.czapbooks.com/product/futchi-perf. I had some serious budget limitations and was only able to pick up RIND by kickintheeyes. It’s mysterious and beautiful and bitter.
SECOND: We met meghasissues and she’s great. Tracie picked up a few of her books and I read Cat Therapy while sitting at the table and it made me smile the entire time I was reading it. Like, I had some serious warm fuzzies. I also read her submission to As You Were #2 about music+pain+pits and I totally identify with it. You an order Cat Therapy or her other books at http://meghasissues.com/THIRD: We also met Ann Uland and Emily Willis of Arbitrary Muse comics. They are partners who write feminist and LGBTIQ comics together. They travel A LOT. Tracie picked up If The Shoe Fits, which you can read more about and buy here: http://arbitrarymuse.com/collections/frontpage/products/if-the-shoe-fits-digital-download
FOUR’D: I LOVE gnarlyasiwannabe, OKAY? Apparently Max loves grave markers as much as I do. I can’t believe I neglected to mention that I work at a dang cemetery. Whatever. I’m sure I’ll see Max again. Buy stuff from Max! http://gnarlyasiwannabe.storenvy.com/
FIVE: My favorite surprise of the convention is alexiscooke. I’d never seen Alexis’ stuff before and I AM IN LOVE WITH IT. It’s wonderful. I shouldn’t be allowed to write, like, reviews of things because most of the reasons I like things have to do with my feelings and I’m not good at talking about them so I can’t really do how much I like Alexis’ stuff justice but if you look at it, you’ll know what I’m talking about. Okay. http://alexiscooke.com/Comics-1
SPACE definitely made Tracie and I realize how fortunate we are to live in a city with a good comics community and in a place where there are lots of female and queer creators who get the recognition they deserve. We heard lots of stories from people who live in other places that have zero comics culture and zero interest in women who write comics. They should all just move here. Columbus should be the feminist comics hub of the universe.

(And if you haven’t read SUB- yet, feel free to download it off Gumroad for $0 !)

AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I received such a wonderful review in House of 1000 Manga article !!! I’m always a little nervous about getting Dinner Ditz reviewed because it was the first comic I made right after graduating from MCAD and the first comic I had made after an 8 month sleep binge. This was lovely and really the whole article I think is a great read. Go have a read and see why Sparkler Monthly is so AMAZING!
